Frequently Asked Questions

What is Holistic Deodorant?

We created our Holistic Deodorant in response to the commercial market that thinks simply removing the most toxic ingredients is all they are required to do in order to call themselves natural. We think good formulation, like good design should do more than you expect.

Holistic deodorant takes you entire systems wellbeing into account rather than simply masking odor. Our deodorant aids your body’s natural detoxification and gently balances your hormonal system over time using 100% plant and earth based ingredients. Because it is becoming common for children to need deodorant we made our formula for sensitive skin, but everyone will appreciate the way the organic butter and oils soothe their skin.

What is Whole Ingredient Formulation?

Whole Ingredient Formulation is a term that we here at Sabali Pure use to characterize our approach to Natural Formulation. We never use synthetics and we limit our use of additives to fair below commercial standards. Our goal is to use as many single origin plant based ingredients as possible. We do not support the common practice of using laboratory manipulated fatty acids conglomerates as a base for our products.

Do Essentail Oils balance hormones?

Essential oils are plant-based, and some contain phytoestrogens. These are plant-based substances that behave similarly to the hormone estrogen.

Some experts believe that essential oils containing phytoestrogens may help balance hormones and relieve symptoms such as mood changes and hot flashes during menopause.

Some concern is that Lavender Oil can disrupt pre-pubescent boys' hormonal development. For this reason, we suggest only using EARTH in Sandalwood Rose or Citrus & Cedar for boys before puberty.

Is Diatomaceous Earth (DE) safe?

Yes, there are two types of DE. Food Grade and Industrial. We only use food grade. DE is made into a superfine powder from fossilized shells. You want to be mindful not to inhale DE because it can irritate your throat and lungs.

Does diatomaceous earth help your teeth?

It helps remove plaque and calculus (tartar) and will help prevent or improve the condition of periodontitis (gum disease) and gingivitis (gum inflammation).

How many ingredients have been banned from cosmetic use?

According to the Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, who shared a detailed overview of the Toxic Free Beauty Act of 2021, nearly 2500 ingredients have been banned in the EU. This number has almost doubled in less than a decade. Sadly, the US has continued only to ban and/or restrict 11 ingredients.

For example, Mercury is restricted from many uses but continues to be approved for use in eye cosmetics.

How can you make products without preservatives?

Many of our products are formulated without aqueous ingredients (water) and therefore do not require preservatives under typical circumstances. Typical, in this case, is storing your products out of direct sunlight and in temperatures not exceeding 85 degrees for prolonged periods.

Prolonged heat exposure can degrade the natural oils and alter the consistency of your products. The good news is while this may require you to replace your product sooner than expected, it will not cause any injury*.

We will use gentle yet effective plant-based preservatives in all products that require it. We conduct shelf stability tests on all new products before roll-out.

*Allergic reactions can occur in anyone from anything. Should you experience a reaction, please immediately discontinue use.

Will your products melt in the heat?

Our balm and lotion products will become soft, runny, or even melt* if left in the heat for a prolonged time.

We recommend putting these products upright in the refrigerator for at least 60 minutes to help the oils and butters cool at a relatively consistent pace which will help maintain product consistency.

Does turmeric whiten teeth?

There are conflicting stories on the effectiveness of turmeric whitening your teeth. We can only speak from what we have personally experienced and what customers have shared with us other the years.

Yes, using our toothpowder has increased oral health, including teeth whitening for some. Please keep in mind turmeric is a natural herb that has been used worldwide as a skin lightener and teeth whitener, but it will never work like a laser or chemical whitening treatment.

We have also had numerous customers share that our products have improved gum health. While this reaction is probably due to the combination of ingredients we use, we believe that the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric do have a positive effect.*

There are reports of turmeric staining teeth. We have been creating and selling toothpaste and powders with turmeric for over six years and have never had anyone share this with us. However, as responsible formulators, we take precautions, including limiting the amount of turmeric in our products.

Is charcoal safe for teeth?

The answer is yes when used in the right way.

Charcoal can be very effective at removing stains from teeth through the use of abrasion. This means that charcoal particles scrape the surface of your teeth to remove stains. For this reason, it is essential to use cosmetic-grade charcoal from reputable sources that can provide Safety Data Sheets that confirm how an ingredient can be safely used.

We purposely formulate our tooth powder to be gentle. We have found a balance that allows our tooth powder to effectively whiten teeth and freshen mouthes without hurting enamel and gums.
